All Barbour tartans originate from the same "sett" - that is sharing the same pattern and weight ot lines - and have been confirmed by experts Kinloch Anderson based in Edinburgh. In historical precedent Barbour changed the linings according to requirements and in 2004 we introduced several new sophisticated tartans for specific needs. We also took the opportunity to upgrade the whole wax cotton range to zip - in liner system

alongside new tartans designed within the Barbour sett. However we have retained an Originals range which comprises our Bedale, Beaufort and Border with stud-in lining plus the International Jacket. In broad terms, Navy garments retain the Dress Tartan, Sage garments take Ancient Tartan (Green! Cream), Black garments use Modern Tartan (Grey! Black) and Rustic garments take Muted Tartan (Brown! Cream).
